A few thoughts on The Awakened Life: An Introduction and Overview: A Glimpse of Your True Self Living Water Spiritual Center
Dear friends, I would like to share with you a few personal thoughts on why I am so passionately involved in this new series on The Awakened Life. I have been a teacher for over 20 years. Around 10 years ago, I, (and many other teachers) noticed a remarkable shift; simply put, quite suddenly, many more people where waking up than ever before. The reasons for this phenomenon are many, and we will discuss that in the seminar. Let me be clear about what I mean by “Awakening”; I mean awakening to your true self through a powerful glimpse that is an actual experience, a deep personal insight; not just an idea or a concept. In addition, that glimpse can be experienced by anyone willing to take a close look for themselves. A teacher is simply one who can provide a bit of guidance and an environment, a safe and quiet place, for that insight to occur. It is, actually, a surprisingly small step! Here is the most important thing I can say: Once you have had that glimpse, you never forget that you have seen your true self. Your practice from this point on becomes a joyful celebration, a way of being rather than an endless search. As all the great traditions teach, if you rest in your true self, it is the end of searching. Finally, you know where home is. The themes we will cover in the seminar, creativity, personal relationships, spiritual poetry, are doorways into this insight. The core work of the day will be to create a space for you to have your own glimpse. The greater part of the day will be devoted to “pointing out” exercises that you may have already discovered through the work of Eckhart Tolle, Ken Wilber, Father Thomas Keating, Jean Houston, and other teachers who are focused on a planetary Awakening project. I am hoping that you will consider joining me on this most important exploration. Those of you who have worked with me before know that I believe in the cosmic humor of Spirit. Plan to have a little fun along the way! Dear Friends, Our last seminar in the Paths to Awakening In Your Life Now series culminates with, Joseph Campbell Revisited on Saturday May 12th at Living Water Spiritual Center. I am sure that most of you are familiar with the great mythologist’s work, especially through the PBS The Power of Myth series with Bill Moyers. Campbell is as vital today as he ever was. Why? Because Joseph Campbell was, at his core, a realized, Awakened soul. He was, I would say, a practitioner of Jhana Yoga; the Yoga of the Mind, which “uses the Mind to transcend the mind.” Very tricky! However, Campbell was one of the rare practitioners who achieved it. This seminar will focus specifically on the key teachings of Joseph Campbell that point directly to the transformation of consciousness. The goal will be to enter into the most direct and lucid passages of The Power of Myth that speak personally to us about the awakening process. This was the essence of Campbell’s message: transformation is about YOU. As he would say, “Who else?” Campbell was particularly insightful about mystical Christianity, Indian Vedanta, and Buddhism. We will devote much of our exploration in these wisdom traditions. His insight on the significance of the Christ that rises in the heart of the seeker is profound and startlingly fresh. As he would say: "Christ IS" Joseph Campbell was dying from cancer when he filmed the series. Despite his waning physical energies, the last episode, The Masks of God, when he was in a most fragile state, is vibrant; he literally “glows” with Spirit. I believe he was, as he would say, “transparent to the transcendent.” Living Water has been an Oasis of Spirit for so many of us, and we will all feel bereft when its work is finally done. I and others who have taught at Living Water hope to carry on in the spirit of abundance and wisdom that Living Water will always represent. We will make a new beginning, and I will do my best to keep the flame alive. Our thanks to the Sisters of Saint Joseph for their fortitude and vision. Please join me for an afternoon of, meditation, celebration, and awakening. I am planning one more seminar day for Saturday, July 7, entitled: A Survival Guide to Living the Awakened Life. Details soon! Also, I will be announcing fall programs at Moody Pond in Windsor at this seminar. Remember, you need not have attended previous Awakening seminars in this series to attend this workshop. I hope to see old and new friends! Nameste, David Peloquin
