AGING WITH SPIRIT
March 2-3, 2012
Friday 7:00 pm - Saturday 4:00 pm
As we age, everything shifts and changes-including our spiritual lives. Some
changes are subtle, some fairly dramatic. We will look at how aging, living
the last part of our lives and facing their inevitable end, affects our
spiritual lives. What becomes more-and less-important to us? What images of
old age do we carry? What do we most deeply want in the last part of our
lives, and what might God want for us? What does it mean to seek and find
wholeness in the last years of our lives?
I myself am learning as I age. My own understanding is being influenced by
such thinkers as Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot (The Third Chapter), Ram Dass
(Still Here, Conscious Aging), Helen Luke (Old Age), Zalman
Schachter-Shalomi (From Age-ing to Sage-ing) and others.
Karen Foley, a semi-retired Unitarian Universalist minister, offers
spiritual direction/companionship and retreats, and writes. She has
completed the Shalem Institute programs in spiritual guidance and retreat
and group leadership. Her poetry and reflective writings have appeared in
newspaper columns, the journal of Spiritual Directors International, Sacred
Journey, and several anthologies.
$85.00
Price includes program,
overnight accommodations in a private room, two meals on Saturday and
snacks. If you would like to walk the trails please
bring walking shoes/boots.
Comments from 2011:
"Karen Foley: Excellent Job -- Wonderful, thoughtful - well-paced day -
Thank you for the hand-out (i.e. booklist, etc.) -- Excellent presenter."

SCRAPBOOKING RETREAT
March 2-4, 2012
Weekend, overnight or for a day
Our daily lives (and photos) are brimming with "God moments." Faithbook
photo albums help you to see God's work in your life through pictures and
stories. Learn about crafting faith-themed albums and ways to introduce "faithbooking"
into the albums you've already created. This weekend is designed for those
who already enjoy scrapbooking and those who are interested in learning the
craft. The majority of the time is spent independently scrapping while
surrounded by others who share a passion for album making. The workshop
leader will offer ideas and teach new techniques. There will be optional
sharing time and "surprise" faithbooking gifts appear throughout the
weekend. Bring your album project and all your supplies. Products will also
be available for purchase.
Kerri Oliver
has been an independent consultant with Creative Memories for
eight years. In 2002, the co-founder of Creative Memories personally

MINDFUL KNITTING:
Inviting Contemplative Practice to Knitting
March 3, 2012
Saturday, 9:30 - 3:30
With the winter season and quiet landscape enveloping us, knitting can be
the perfect tool to explore the work of the hands and the qualities of the
mind. Mindful knitting will be encouraged by focusing on the rhythmic action
of a stitch and its repetitive aspect. An atmosphere for "quiet" knitting
will be created while working at our own pace on a simple project. For those
wishing to knit for the community, please bring worsted weight acrylic yarn
and size 4 dpn for a newborn hat. Pattern will be provided. Hats will be
collected at the end of the session and donated to a local hospital as a
symbol of our open hearts joined in meditative knitting. After experiencing
mindful knitting, we will share our thoughts and insights about the
practice. Journaling will be encouraged and interspersed throughout the
session.
Sheri Vigue is a passionate knitter, library volunteer and grant writer,
past social worker, and breast cancer survivor. Initially interested in
knitting as creativity, she soon discovered the meditative qualities within
the fiber and needles. Now a fervent practitioner of mindful/spiritual
knitting, she invites knitters and knitters-to-be to explore this age old
craft and potential prayer form.

BEFRIENDING OUR LOSSES
March 10, 2012
Saturday, 9:30-3:30 pm
Judith Viorst writes of "Necessary Losses" in life, and that we have the
power to choose how we meet them. In contrast to a world that often asks us
to deny the darker emotions in our lives, such as grief, fear, anger and
despair, we will explore ways in which to befriend and even to surrender to
them as our teachers. Mindfulness and meditation exercises, along with
centering prayer, all offered in a quiet and supportive setting, will help
us to gain inner peace.
James Gill, L.M.F.T., retired Episcopal priest, is a trained facilitator for
the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Family-to-Family Course, and
lectures at the University of Maine in Augusta (UMA) in the Community Mental
Health course on "The Partnership Model" (including family in the treatment
team).
$50.00
Price includes program,
the noon meal and
snack breaks.
Comments from 2011 program:
"The Rev. Gill is a very spiritual open-minded individual with lots of wisdom
and empathy. Wonderful facilitation and gentleman!"

The Awakened Soul:

March 10, 2012

WRITING TO PRAY
March 9-11, 2012
Friday 7:00 pm - Sunday 1:00 pm
There is an adage that "Writing is thinking on paper," but we could easily
say that "writing is praying on paper." The act of writing, either by hand
or on the computer, requires us to slow our thinking down and the space
between our thoughts and words, gives God the chance to "slip" in. During
this weekend retreat we will explore journal writing and writing in response
to sacred images, biblical figures, music, scripture, spiritual topics and
other writings. Participants ,will explore different ways to enrich their
prayer through writing.
Marilyn MacArthur and Sarah Yasin are founding members of the St. Peter's
Writers Group, a group formed to write, read and discuss topics that center
on Catholic themes such as hope, grace, prayer, etc. They have each
submitted for publication or have been published in a variety of
publications.

EXPANDING THE LIGHT:
An 11th Step Retreat for Women
March 16-18, 2012
Friday 7:00 pm - Sunday 11:00 am
Spirituality is at the heart of recovery and it needs gentle and steady
attention to grow. Spiritual awakening, prayer, meditation, and conscious
contact with God are important parts of the 12-step recovery process.
This retreat is a time to step aside from our usual activities and pressures
to rest with the God of our understanding. It is a time with people in
recovery, in any 12 Step program, to strengthen what you already do, learn
of other spiritual practices, and share our wisdom and what works for us.
Mostly it is a time to rest and remember the blessings we have received. As
has been our practice with Lee in her last two retreats, please bring music,
pillows, comfortable clothes, and maybe pictures of yourself for our God
basket.
Lee F. White LMSW has been in long-term recovery for 31 years. As a member
of BARCC (Bangor Area Recovering Community Coalition), she has tried to
contribute to the recovery community through advocacy and events. She has
particular interest in the issues of children of alcoholics and aging with
regards to recovery. She currently works at Eastern Area Agency on Aging in
Bangor.

LIVING INTO THE
PROMISE OF MUD SEASON
April 14, 2012

NINE PASSIONS
OF THE ENNEAGRAM:
Nine Doorways to Spiritual Growth
April 20-22, 2012
Friday 7:00 pm - Sunday 1:00 pm
The Nine Passions of the Enneagram, or the Nine emotional habits that cause
us to lose contact with Presence, if understood, are the doorways to
limitless growth, expansion, self-acceptance, intimacy and connectedness
with others. This workshop will explore with exercises and practices, the
ways in which one can transform one's relationship with the Nine Passions of

INHABITING THE BODY
OF AWARENESS
April 20-21, 2012
Friday 7:00 pm - Saturday 4:00 pm
Awareness, or attention, is one of the essential capacities of our being,
and its free exercise can be powerful and joyful. Most of us have lost the
free capacity to place and hold our attention when and where we wish because
it is habitually caught up and identified with the dreamlike distraction of
our thoughts and projections.
In this relaxed and supportive workshop we will learn to recognize the
nature of our own awareness; and to practice the skills of freely placing
our attention, freely holding our attention, and consciously infusing our
attention with love and presence. Specifically, we will use both movement
and meditation exercises to learn to stay present with our own bodies; to
place and to hold our attention at specific awareness centers within the
body; to allow awareness to deepen and to integrate our overall experience
of being; and to "infuse" that awareness with our capacity for loving
presence.

FATHER THOMAS MERTON:
Monk - Humanitarian; Prophet - Priest
April 21, 2012
Saturday, 9:30 - 3:00
Join us as we learn more about Thomas Merton, whose works and influence seem
current, as if written yesterday. Merton was a twentieth-century Catholic
monk, writer, and scholar of comparative religion who died unexpectedly over
40 years ago in Thailand. In addition to viewing a video of Merton's life,
we will read and discuss excerpts from his various works. Displays of
pictures from Merton's monastery (The Dali Lama recently co-sponsored a
conference there) will be available. Many of his work will be for sale.
Rev. Dr. Stephen Drane

MANDALA AND THE
CIRCLE OF LIFE
April 27-28, 2012
Friday 7:00 pm - Saturday 4:00 pm
Mandala is a sacred Sanskrit word that simply means circle. In many
traditions, drawing within the circle is a spiritual practice. As a form of
meditation and journaling it both teaches us a lot about ourselves and lets
the Spirit move within us. During this weekend we will use the drawn mandala
as a way of exploring the different issues that come up in the stages of our
lives. Mandala Meditation requires no artistic ability or experience, only a
mind and heart that is open to exploring an amazing process.
Linda Carleton is an artist on Chebeague Island and retired minister in the
United Church of Christ. She is a trained MARI mandala practioner and is
currently in formation as a spiritual director with the Franciscan
Spirituality Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. You may see some of her mandala

writing, and artwork, participants will have the opportunity to experience a
visceral shift in consciousness and gain a sense of the guidance of their
internal compass. Visioning is rooted in humility and service, and
participants learn to practice the method to discover how to be of the
greatest possible service in their lives, which ultimately leads them to
their greatest joy. The process can be implemented to inform one's
livelihood, relationships, even the mundane aspects of how to sell one's
house or how to spend the holidays. Open to all who seek to live more fully.
No prior experience; spiritual or artistic is necessary.

GUIDED RETREAT
God in the Whisper
July 13-19, 2012
Friday 7:00 pm - Thursday 11:00 am
Put on the mind of God as if we could know what the mind of God is! Yet
God's nature is revelatory, God's yearning for us to know "I am" in our very
breathing. Subtle, hidden, deep, and silent; God's nature is also in plain
sight. Join us exploring this mystery. Dress to be cool, comfortable ready
for however God whispers into your soul. Spiritual Direction available.
Short directive talks and prayer early morning and late afternoon.
Betsy Quinn watches in awe at the action of God in each person. As retreat
leader, She brings the deep trust to the group that "God is more available
than we dare believe". Wife and mother she is dedicated to communication
with God in the "fast lane" of lay life, setting aside moments to rest
awhile in the soul's grace where God and spirit commune. Trained at Shalem
Institute for Spiritual Formation, Betsy belongs to Spiritual Director's
International.

Price includes
the retreat,

LIVING IN A COSMOS
DRENCHED WITH DIVINITY
Featuring Artist Mary Southard, CSJ
August 17-23, 2012
Friday 5:30 pm - Thursday 11:00 am
-
A Retreat in Memory of Kay Gill
-
We awaken to a world which is ONE, totally interdependent. We are flooded
with astounding new Revelations: the Great Story of our evolutionary
universe --and the terrible awareness of Earth's dying. This retreat will
draw us into new intimacy with ourselves, our God, all beings, all creation.
We discover ourselves anew as co-creators, participating in a loving
Universe.
Please bring a journal. During the retreat, as children of our creative God,
those who wish may practice creativity as a way of prayer. If so, please
bring your favorite art materials.
Mary Southard, CSJ;
a Sister of St. Joseph, is best known for her Creative
work. Her paintings, and sculptures explore and give expression to the human
soul as we experience the beauty and longing, the passion and mystery of our
intimate and "radically amazing" Universe, our sacred and beautiful Earth.
Mary is also an experienced educator, retreat director and spiritual
companion whose delight is to be with others on "this great journey". Art
commissions and program work have taken her to many places in the US, Canada
and Europe and Australia. She lives and has her studio in La Grange Park,
Il.
